Great tea doesn't need a long ingredient list to be interesting. Sometimes, it means discovering more in the leaf itself.

Taiwanese tea makers have been changing the tea game by finding new ways to create unique teas through different methods of harvesting, processing, oxidation, roasting, and craftsmanship.

We've ended up with two new unique flavors that capture the innovation of Taiwanese tea. Introducing our newest Bottled Tea flavors: Honey Aroma Black Tea & Unsweetened Black Oolong Tea.

Meet Our Honey Aroma Black Tea

Despite its name, Honey Aroma Black Tea doesn't have any added honey! The name describes the tea's naturally honey-like aroma and flavor, which come from the tea plant itself.

In the early 20th century, a Taiwanese tea farmer discovered this variety after noticing their tea leaves were bitten by a tiny critter no larger than a grain of rice, the tea leafhopper.

Instead of throwing away the leaves, the farmer processed them anyway. To their surprise, the tea's finished brew had a sweet, honey-floral taste, unlike any other tea.

This happens because the tea plant produces defensive chemicals that fill the air with sweet honey-floral notes. This scent attracts other prey, like spiders, to keep the bugs away, and it signals to farmers that the tea is ready for harvest.

Using this intriguing technique, we've let the leafhoppers do their thing while we do ours. Our Honey Aroma Black Tea is a soft, sweet brew with mellow earthy notes and a light honeyed taste, enhanced by cane sugar. This tea leaf magic makes this Taiwanese tea uniquely fragrant, delicious, and worth trying.

Say Hello To Our Unsweetened Black Oolong Tea

A new addition to our Unsweetened Tea line, our Unsweetened Black Oolong Tea is bold, rich, and robust. But don't be mistaken! Our Black Oolong Tea is simply oolong tea. The term "Black" actually refers to the heavy roasting and oxidation applied to the oolong tea leaves.

Roasting changes the grassy notes of tea to warmer, nutty notes through heat processing. Oxidation is a natural chemical reaction where tea leaves interact with oxygen, turning them darker and enhancing the flavor even further.

Most regular oolong tea's oxidation range falls between 10-50%. But Black Oolong Tea lands around 60-80%. This deeper process brings out the tea's complex layers of toasty, nutty, and fruity notes, with a soft, subtle sweetness. There are no added sugars or flavors in this tea. The great taste comes from the pure tea itself.

Are the new flavors made in Taiwan?

Yes, our newest additions, just like our other teas, remain proudly brewed and bottled in Taiwan. We partner with small family-owned farms to bring high-quality, simple-ingredient tea into your hands.

Are both flavors unsweetened?

No. Our Black Oolong Tea is the only unsweetened flavor. Our Honey Aroma Black Tea is sweetened only with cane sugar - no honey added.

Are they caffeinated?

Yes, we avoid chemical processes that can alter the caffeine of our tea leaves. So we leave it naturally as it is, with low caffeine amounts. Both flavors contain a total of 2.5mg of caffeine, making them our lowest caffeinated bottled teas!

Is Black Oolong Tea a mix of black tea & oolong tea?

No. The flavor is only oolong tea. The term "Black" refers to the heavier roasting and oxidation process of the tea leaves, which creates a darker flavor and color.

Does the Honey Aroma Black Tea contain honey?

No honey is added to sweeten the tea, only cane sugar. The name describes the honey-like aroma that is developed naturally from the tea leaf.

Are the flavors vegan?

Yes, the teas are made entirely from tea leaves without any animal-derived ingredients or intentional animal slaughter.
